Water heaters

Price and installation of water heaters

Hot water in detached houses, single-family houses and terraced houses is usually heated by a water heater. One of the tasks of a water heater is to heat the water in the home. In simple terms, a water heater is an insulated container made of corrosion-resistant material with a resistance that heats water to approximately +65 °C. It is important that the water is heated above +60°C to kill bacteria living in stagnant water. After the water is heated, it is ready to use.

Choice of water heater

The most important criteria for the water heater are the right size and high quality of the material of manufacture. When choosing the size of the water heater, take into account how many people use hot water in the household and the amount of hot water used. Also take into account the occasional peak consumption of hot water and choose a slightly oversized heater rather than a slightly undersized one. Standing and showering uses about 10 liters of water per minute.

Location of water heaters

It is advisable to install the heater in a warm room to reduce heat loss. Also make sure that the space has a floor drain, water from the water heater's overflow protection is led there and if the water heater starts to leak, it is better to let the water run out into the floor drain than on the parquet, so that no water damage is created. Water heaters are usually fixed to the wall, but they can also be placed on the floor, but you must ensure that there is a gap between the floor and the heater.

Maintenance of water heaters

A water heater does not require much maintenance. The most important thing is to check that the safety valve is working a couple of times a year. If your water heater has a sacrificial anode, it should be checked once a year. To kill Legionella bacteria, the water must be heated to +60°Cso check the temperature at regular intervals. You can also empty the water heater of water and clean the heater of sludge at regular intervals.

Lifespan

The lifespan of a water heater is affected by use, maintenance and water quality. A water heater usually lasts between 10-20 years. Water heater failures are usually first noticed when the domestic hot water is not hot enough or the water temperature is lukewarm. The most common faults are usually broken safety valves, broken resistors or otherwise just plastic pipes in the heater that have cracked. A new water heater is always more energy efficient than an old one, due to better thermal insulation, which leads to less heat loss. If your water heater is old, it is worth replacing it before it breaks down, this way you avoid possible water damage as well.

Price of water heaters

The price of a water heater varies depending on size, efficiency and volume. The price is usually between SEK 3,000-25,000 per heater. With installation and commissioning included, it costs between SEK 10,000-30,000. Installation, replacement or connection of a water heater costs between SEK 5,000-20,000. Servicing of heaters is usually done at an hourly rate.
